The DragonBoatWorld 's Magazine

The DragonBoatWorld ‘s Magazine

"The DragonBoatWorld 's Magazine" (DBWM) was first published by Creative Dragon Works (CDW) as printed magazine "Dragon Boat World International" in January 2008 and from then on a quarterly basis until mid 2011. Then publishing ceased. During that period of publishing it had been the only independent and printed, world-wide Magazine for Dragon Boating. As an insert it included the IDBF-Newsletter "Dragon Boat International".

Seven years later it returned in April 2018 as e-magazine. CDW sent it to the readers as PDF-file via e-mail and also offered it as download from Dragon Boat Net. In todays digital world it doesn't make sense anymore to print hardcopies. Therefore CDW only published the e-version regularly until just before the Coronavirus struck the globe.

The pandemic left enough time to think over things. Making the magazine is quite time demanding and involves costly traveling. Hunting for content is a permanent issue, which becomes more and more difficult. As a final conclusion, it doesn't pay off, but actually costs the publisher. On the other hand there still is the enthusiasm to promote the dragon boating! The sport provides so much joy and fun as well as all the camaraderie within the dragon boat community. All this frames into colorful and cultural aspects originating from Hong Kong, the beloved and long years home of the publisher.

Thinking about, what do you need to do to read an e-magazine? Well, you go to a website from where you download it to your device, be it a smart-phone, a tablet or a desktop PC. There you save it first and then you open it to read. When receiving the file by e-mail it is almost the same procedure.

If instead, you go to a website, you immediately can click and scroll through the content without the need of saving anything to your device. Using a website like Dragon Boat Net as media platform enables the immediate posting of news without being bound to a publishing schedule. The other advantage is the easy archiving of news, reports and articles. Dragon Boat Net will replace the magazine in these aspects!

However, irregular special editions of The DragonBoatWorld 's Magazine may make sense when a topic covered is big enough and would mean clicking through too many pages and posts on a website. So the magazine has not ceased and will be kept for its special editions.
