17 Paddlers died in China

Based on reports from the Chinese Xinhua News Agency we learned about a tragic dragon boat accident which happened in the afternoon of April 21st, 2018 on TaoHua River in Guilin (South China). During a training session two fully packed boats came close to an overflow dam and both teak-wooden boats capsized badly.

57 fellow paddlers went into water with very strong current. 40 paddlers could be rescued. According to general media reports no life jackets have been worn.

The training session was organized without notifying the police. After the accident two of the organizers were arrested.

In total 200 rescuers were deployed to help.

Our deep condolences go to the families and friends of the victims of this tragedy.
