Despite previous announcements Mike Haslam's Alpha Sport Associates (ASA) and Henning Wiekhorst's Creative Dragon Works (CDW) finally are not publishing a mutual magazine. Some points of discussion have arisen and both sides couldn't come to an agreement. By this there will be in future two independent Magazines for Dragon Boating - Dragon Sport News published by ASA and DRAGON BOAT WORLD Magazine coming from CDW.
This situation doesn't necessarily need to mean both magazines are rivals. At least CDW offers to continue providing an Internet-Home for Dragon Sport News by keeping a dedicated page on Dragon Boat Net from where DSN issues can be downloaded. Furthermore the link from Dragon Boat Net to the DSN Facebook page will remain too. Should this support disapear from Dragon Boat Net, then the only reason will be ASA not wanting this anymore.
What does all this mean to the Dragon Boat Community? - Well, you all will have more to read!
DRAGON BOAT WORLD Magazine was formerly published as printed hard-copy magazine, published by CDW. It was the only and truely independent media dedicated to the Dragon Boat Sport, allthough it was also a media-partner to the IDBF, who had published and distributed its Newsletter as insert to the magazine.
Now after a break of seven years the original DRAGON BOAT WORLD as published by CDW from early 2006 until end 2010 comes back to stage.
It needs to be acknowledged that DRAGON BOAT WORLD once was established in Canada, but closed down in 2005. At the time still being a Hong Kong based company Creative Dragon Works took over the operation and continued to publish the magazine.
By the end of April 2018 DRAGON BOAT WORLD will be available as E-Magazine in Portable Data Format, commonly known as PDF. Printed versions are currently not on schedule, but who knows the future?
